Immortal Legend Batman # 1 is the debut issue of a new, separate-continuity (Elseworlds) six-issue comic book miniseries from DC. It is a cosmic, science-fiction epic heavily influenced by Japanese tokusatsu media (like Kamen Rider and Ultraman) and the "lone gunman" western genre.

Premise

The story is set in a distant future where humanity has ventured into the stars using dangerous technology that accidentally shattered the barrier between their universe and a "shadow" universe. This breach released horrific apparitions that crave destruction.

A warrior (the current generation's Batman) discovered how to harness the energy binding these universes together, transforming into a "cosmic dark knight" to fight the shadow monsters alongside his partners, Robin and Nightwing.

The Story in Issue #1

The first issue opens with the current Batman having seemingly abandoned his mission. The central mystery is why he has left his partners and is now hunting a rogues' gallery of monsters born from the shadows.

Key plot points include:

  • The Hunt for Bruce Wayne: The Batman is on a distant planet, searching for a man he believes to be a shadow in disguise: Bruce Wayne.
  • The Reveal: In this specific Elseworlds reality, "Batman" is a mantle passed down through generations, and the man everyone knows as the billionaire Bruce Wayne is an imposter who is secretly an evolving shadow creature.
  • A New Status Quo: Batman (whose true identity is not Bruce Wayne, at least not in the traditional sense) exposes the imposter, setting up a new threat: shadows have learned how to impersonate people, making them significantly more dangerous.

Creative Team

The series is written by Kyle Higgins and Mat Groom, with art by Erica D'Urso and Dan Mora. The creative team has experience working on other tokusatsu-inspired projects like Power Rangers and Inferno Girl Red.

The comic was released on August 27, 2025. You can learn more about the series from the official DC Comics website.
