Bitch Planet #1 (2014) is the critically acclaimed, Eisner-nominated feminist sci-fi series premiere published by Image Comics on December 10, 2014. Created by writer Kelly Sue DeConnick (Captain Marvel) and artist Valentine De Landro (X-Factor), the debut issue blends classic 1970s women-in-prison exploitation cinema tropes with dystopian social commentary.

Plot Summary

The story is set in a patriarchal future where Earth is ruled by a council of men known as the "Protectors of the Fatherland." Women who refuse to comply with patriarchal norms, beauty standards, or behavioral compliance are legally designated as "Non-Compliant."

These women are permanently deported to an off-world, maximum-security penal colony officially called the Auxiliary Compliance Outpost, but colloquially known across the galaxy as Bitch Planet. The first issue introduces the brutal arrival of a new batch of inmates—including the fierce Kamau Kogo—and establishes the psychological and physical horrors utilized by the prison's robotic and human guards to break the women's spirits.
