Absolute Wonder Woman # 1, released on October 23, 2024, by DC Comics, reinvents Diana of Themyscira as a warrior raised in Hell by the sorceress Circe, rather than on Paradise Island. This new, darker origin story explores how love and compassion can still blossom in a world defined by suffering and exile. 

Plot Summary: "The Last Amazon, Part 1" 

The issue balances action in the present day with flashbacks to Diana's unusual childhood and upbringing. 

• Exile to Hell: As punishment for the Amazons' "crimes" against the gods, Apollo exiles the infant Diana to the Wild Isle of Hell, forbidden for anyone to even speak the word "Amazon," and leaves her with the banished Circe to die.
• Mother and Daughter: Circe, initially a reluctant warden, is shocked when the infant Diana instinctively tames and shows compassion to Hell's beasts. Over the years, Circe grows to love Diana as a daughter, teaching her magic, history, and how to survive in the underworld.
• The Harbinger Invasion: In the present day, an adult Diana, armed with weapons forged in Hell, arrives in Gateway City to battle monstrous creatures called "Harbingers" that emerge from a mysterious, inverted pyramid in the sky.
• A Declaration: As the battle escalates with the arrival of the massive Harbinger Prime, Diana, recalling her origins, boldly declares herself an Amazon for the first time, ready to protect a world that never protected her people.
