Absolute Wonder Woman # 1 Eighth Printing 2026, published by DC Comics on October 23, 2024, is the debut issue of a new series in the Absolute Universe. This alternate-reality reimagining by writer Kelly Thompson and artist Hayden Sherman presents a version of Diana Prince who was raised in Hell instead of the paradise of Themyscira. 

Plot and Setting

The issue balances high-stakes action in the present day with foundational flashbacks to Diana's origin. 

• The Origin: Infant Diana is cast into the Underworld by the god Apollo as a punishment for the Amazons' "crimes" against Zeus. She is left with the sorceress Circe, who is forbidden from ever mentioning the word "Amazon".
• Hellish Upbringing: Growing up on the "Wild Isle of Hell," Diana develops into a compassionate but battle-hardened warrior, eventually winning over the initially indifferent Circe.
• Gateway City Attack: In the present day, an inverted pyramid appears over Gateway City, unleashing a wave of demonic creatures called Harbingers.
• The Arrival: Diana enters the surface world for the first time, riding a skeletal Pegasus and wielding the Athena Blade to defend humanity.

This version of Wonder Woman is notably different from her traditional counterpart: 

• Magic-Based Powers: Raised by a witch, this Diana relies heavily on sorcery, incantations, and hell-forged weaponry.
• Arsenal: She carries the red Nemesis Lasso (made of blood and sacrifice) and the massive Athena Blade.
• The Last Amazon: Diana believes herself to be the final survivor of her race, leading her to claim her heritage as a "mission of justice" rather than peace.
