Batman: The Dark Knight #6 (published in February 2012 with an April 2012 cover date) is the concluding chapter of the "Run Rabbit Run" story arc. Written by Paul Jenkins alongside superstar artist David Finch, this issue is part of DC Comics' New 52 initiative and acts as a massive reintroduction for one of Batman's most imposing physical foes.

The Plot

  • The Toxin Conspiracy: Throughout the arc, Batman has been tracking a bizarre, highly aggressive new strain of fear toxin mixed with the muscle-enhancing drug Venom. This super-toxin strips away a person's fear and unlocks unnatural, adrenaline-fueled physical strength, but it drives the user permanently insane.
  • The Rise of Bane: The investigation leads Batman directly to Bane, who has been weaponizing the serum to build an unstoppable criminal empire. Under the drug's influence, Bane is faster, larger, and more savage than ever before.
  • A Brutal Defeat: Batman tracks Bane down for a final showdown. However, the raw, chemically enhanced power is too much for the Dark Knight. Bane subjects Batman to a horrific beating, physically breaking him and leaving him defeated.
  • The Hallucination & The Trap: As Batman lies broken and semi-conscious, the psychological side effects of the fear toxin take hold. He experiences vivid, haunting hallucinations of his deceased parents, Thomas and Martha Wayne. While Batman is trapped in his own mind, the mysterious, elusive villainess White Rabbit slips away into the shadows.
  • The Global Safe Word: Realizing the situation has spiraled completely out of control, Batman is forced to override his own independence. He broadcasts a high-priority distress signal, bringing in Superman and The Flash (Barry Allen) to stabilize the immediate fallout in Gotham.

Core Themes

  • Losing Total Control: The New 52 Dark Knight series focused heavily on Batman's psychological limits. Issue #6 highlights the rare, terrifying moment where Batman completely loses control over both a physical fight and his own mental sanity.
  • The Overwhelming Legacy of Venom: The issue explores the horrific consequences of combining Scarecrow's fear gas with Bane's Venom. It frames the drug not just as a power-up, but as a corrosive plague destroying the minds of Gotham's underworld.
