1776 # 1 (November 12, 2025) is the first issue of a five-part limited series written by J. Michael Straczynski and illustrated by Sean Damien Hill and Ron Lim. Launched as a tribute to the United States' upcoming 250th anniversary in 2026, the story blends superhero action with American history.

The series follows a team of Marvel heroes who must travel back in time to the birth of the American Revolution to prevent history from being rewritten.

  • The Threat: The immortal sorceress Morgan le Fay travels to the 18th century with a plan to ensure the British win the Revolutionary War. Her ultimate goal is to prevent the formation of the United States, thereby splitting the continent and ensuring the Avengers never assemble in the future.
  • The Mission: In the present day, Doctor Strange detects these alterations to the timeline and assembles a specialized team to intervene.
  • Historical Team-Ups: Upon arriving in the past, the heroes join forces with key historical figures, including George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and John Adams.

Led by Captain America, the group (sometimes referred to as the "Revolutionary Warriors") consists of several prominent icons:

  • Captain America (Steve Rogers)
  • Iron Man (Tony Stark)
  • Spider-Man (Peter Parker)
  • The Hulk (Bruce Banner)
  • Clea Strange, the Sorceress Supreme of the Dark Dimension, who serves as their guide through time.
  • Educational Tone: The story aims to explore the "meaning and cost" of the events of 1776 through the perspective of Marvel characters, reflecting on national foundations during a divided modern climate.
  • Historical Inaccuracies and Humor: The narrative is described as having a "comical and exciting tone" that acknowledges the absurdity of superheroes interacting with Founding Fathers, such as Spider-Man being skeptical of Benedict Arnold.
  • Variant Covers: Issue #1 features various tribute covers, including a Phil Jimenez variant that pays homage to Amazing Spider-Man #583 (the 2009 Obama issue), but featuring George Washington instead.
