52: Week Fifty-Two, titled "It Ends Here!" and published on May 2, 2007, is the final issue of the year-long weekly DC Comics series 52. The issue resolves the year's missing gaps between Infinite Crisis and One Year Later, revealing how the DC Universe was reshaped in the absence of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman.

The Return of the Multiverse

The central revelation of the finale is the rebirth of the DC Multiverse.

  • The Second Big Bang: Rip Hunter reveals to Booster Gold that after Infinite Crisis, the single remaining Earth replicated into 52 identical universes because it could not contain the massive energy from the original collapse.
  • Mister Mind's Transformation: The villain Mister Mind, having evolved into a hyper-evolved "Hyper-Fly," begins to consume the energy of these 52 worlds, literally "eating years and events" from their histories. This consumption causes the 52 identical Earths to change, becoming the distinct parallel worlds of the new Multiverse.

The Defeat of Mister Mind

The main conflict is resolved through a high-stakes time-travel trap:

  • The Trap: Rip Hunter reinforces the robot Skeets with Suspendium (artificial time in particle form) to trap Mister Mind.
  • The Victory: Booster Gold throws Skeets into a time portal while his ancestor Supernova catches him at "Week 0, Day 0". Skeets explodes, releasing temporal energy that reverts Mister Mind to his original harmless form and trapping him in a 52-second time loop.
  • Booster's Legacy: Rip Hunter preserves Skeets' "mem-self" to be rebuilt later, though Booster's role in saving the multiverse remains a secret from the public.

Status of Other Key Characters

The issue serves as a denouement for the series' major subplots:

  • The Question (Renee Montoya): Montoya officially takes up the mantle of the late Vic Sage, restoring the Bat-Signal in Gotham to summon Kate Kane (Batwoman).
  • The Ghost Detectives: Ralph and Sue Dibny, both deceased by the end of the series, are reunited as Ghost Detectives to solve supernatural mysteries.
  • Black Adam: He is shown as a fugitive, mourning at a memorial for his lost family, while a global task force led by Alan Scott and the Department of Metahuman Affairs prepares to hunt him.
  • The Trinity: The issue ends with Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman preparing to return to their traditional roles, catching up to the timeline of the One Year Later titles.
