• The Kent Encounter: Kal-El crashes into a field and is found by Jonathan and Martha Kent. His time with them is depicted as a brief moment of serenity where he experiences farm life and comfort for the first time.
• The Lazarus Intervention: This peace is short-lived as the Lazarus Corporation arrives to seize him, treating him as an "undocumented immigrant". This traumatic event explains his deep-seated motivation for opposing the corporation in earlier issues.
• Brainiac's Shadow: The issue also serves as a prologue for the larger threat of Absolute Brainiac, revealed as a twisted, cybernetically enhanced being who has been observing Kal-El as a "scrumptious new toy".
