All-Star Western # 1 released on September 28, 2011, is the debut issue of a new series published as part of DC Comics’ The New 52 line-wide relaunch. The issue reintroduces the legendary bounty hunter Jonah Hex into the early mythology of Gotham City during the late 1880s.

Set in 1881, the story follows Jonah Hex as he trades the dusty trails of the Old West for the dark, bustling streets of a 19th-century Gotham City.

The Partnership: Hex is hired off the record to track down a vicious serial killer known as the "Gotham Butcher," who has been murdering prostitutes. He is reluctantly paired with Dr. Amadeus Arkham, a pioneer in criminal psychology who later founds Arkham Asylum.

The Conspiracy: The investigation leads the duo from the dangerous slums of Bandit's Roost to a high-society charity event hosted by Mayor Theodore Cobblepot (an ancestor of the Penguin).

The Reveal: Hex and Arkham discover that nearly all of Gotham's elite attendees at the event are wearing mysterious silver skull rings, indicating the presence of a dangerous secret organization.
