American Carnage # 1, originally released on November 21, 2018, is the debut of a gritty nine-issue crime saga published by DC’s Vertigo imprint. Created by writer Bryan Hill and artist Leandro Fernandez, the series explores themes of racism, domestic terrorism, and identity in modern America. 

The story follows Richard Wright, a disgraced, biracial former FBI agent who "passes" for white. 

• The Mission: Wright is recruited by his former mentor, Agent Sheeba Curry, for an off-the-books undercover assignment.
• The Target: He must infiltrate a powerful white supremacist group in Los Angeles believed to be responsible for the brutal murder of a fellow agent.
• The Antagonist: The investigation leads him toward Wynn Allen Morgan, a wealthy philanthropist and charismatic public figure suspected of fueling radicalized violence while maintaining a "clean" public image.
• The Conflict: For Wright, the mission is a desperate last shot at redemption after his career was ruined by the accidental shooting of a child years prior.
