Batman # 0 1994 NM

Batman # 0, published in October 1994, is a central part of DC's "Zero Month" event following the Zero Hour: Crisis in Time crossover. Subtitled "Creature of the Night," the issue retells Batman's origin and provides essential context for his early career during a period when Bruce Wayne had just reclaimed the mantle from Jean-Paul Valley. 

The story follows Batman shortly after the "Knightfall" saga as he investigates a serial mugger in the Park Row section of Gotham City. While tracking the criminal, Bruce reflects on the key events that shaped him: 

• Childhood Tragedy: The issue recounts Bruce falling into the cistern on the Wayne estate at age four, discovering the cavern that would become the Batcave. It also depicts the murder of his parents, Thomas and Martha Wayne, by Joe Chill when Bruce was eight.
• A New Origin Detail: It reveals a previously unknown aspect of his early life, specifically how Bruce used his knowledge of computers to manipulate local bureaucracy so that he could remain the sole ward of Alfred Pennyworth rather than entering the foster system.
• Early Mentors: The narrative highlights the roles of Alfred as his guardian and child psychiatrist Leslie Thompkins, who assisted him during his darkest years.
• The Path to Training: The issue touches on Bruce's travels around the world as an adult, where he learned various crime-fighting skills from venerable masters.
