Batman Incorporated #1 (2012) is the premiere issue of the second volume of the Batman Incorporated comic book series, published by DC Comics on May 23, 2012.

Written by legendary author Grant Morrison and illustrated by artist Chris Burnham, this issue marked the series' debut in the New 52 era. It serves as a crucial chapter in the grand finale of Morrison’s multi-year run on the character.

Core Plot & Synopsis

The story kicks off with a dramatic flash-forward showing Bruce Wayne telling Alfred Pennyworth that "Batman is finished" right before Bruce is arrested by the police.

Back in the present, Batman (Bruce Wayne) and Robin (Damian Wayne) hit the ground running as they track down an illegal meat-packing ring run by goat-masked criminals and Mutant gangs. The Dynamic Duo finds themselves squaring off against Goatboy, a newly introduced assassin under the mind-control of the villainous shadow organization Leviathan. The conflict escalates drastically when Goatboy mistakenly kills his own partner and subsequently claims to his Leviathan handlers that he successfully assassinated Robin.

Key Highlights & Impact

  • The Leviathan War: The issue deeper explores the sinister global mission of Leviathan, an organization revealed to be masterminded by Talia al Ghul as she wages an all-out war against her former lover, Bruce Wayne.
  • Notable Debuts: This issue features the first-ever appearances of several characters in DC continuity, most notably the fan-favorite Bat-Cow, the assassin Goatboy, and the Prime Earth version of the Outsiders superhero team.
  • Global Scope: The narrative expands to show the broader footprint of Batman Inc., checking in on operatives gathered at "Batcave West" in San Francisco under the hero Wingman.
