A young Kara Zor-El (the future Supergirl) listens to her father, Zor-El, recount the historical nightmare of how the planet was nearly broken by an unstoppable force.
• Lara’s Last Stand: The flashback follows Superman’s mother, Lara Lor-Van, back when she was an elite military lieutenant. When the gargantuan beast falls from the sky and begins slaughtering entire legions, Lara commands her husband Jor-El to hide and protect their scientific legacy while she coordinates the defense.
• Zod’s True Exile: According to Zor-El's tale, the monster was eventually driven off by a legendary "Knight of the House of El" who sacrificed his life. However, the comic strips away the propaganda to reveal the dark truth: it was actually Colonel Zod who pushed back the monster using experimental heavy-armor technology. Zod used the mass panic to attempt a military coup, which is what actually resulted in his banishment to the Phantom Zone.

The Twist Ending

The issue ends on a chilling note when a young Kara retreats to her bedroom. An apparition of General Zod manifests through her closet portal, revealing to her that the history she knows is a lie. Zod warns her that Doomsday was never truly destroyed—he was merely contained deep within the Phantom Zone. Zod hints that he has learned to manipulate the beast's presence, directly teasing how the monster would eventually break through to modern-day Earth.
