Convergence: Hawkman #1 (2015), written by Jeff Parker with art by Tim Truman and Enrique Alcatena, features the pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths versions of Hawkman (Katar Hol) and Hawkwoman (Shayera Hol) as they deal with a year of being trapped under a dome and then face off against animal-hybrid foes.

Plot Synopsis

The story is set during the year that the city of Gotham is encased in Brainiac's dome, nullifying most powers, but not the Nth metal-powered flight of the Hawks.

  • Thanagarian Enforcers: The Hawks continue to fight crime in the domed city. They run into a riot where a rioter, before dying, reveals himself to be a fellow Thanagarian and calls Hawkwoman an "enforcer," the Thanagarian term for a police officer.
  • A Sleeper Cell: Investigating the body, the Hawks discover the existence of a Thanagarian sleeper cell within Gotham. They trace them to a hideout where they find the Thanagarians have hooked themselves up to an Absorbascon (a device used to absorb knowledge) to try and understand the dome.
  • A Dire Prophecy: One of the minds in the Absorbascon reveals a grim future: they have seen a coming "great crisis" that will destroy many realities, a crisis their world will not survive, regardless of the outcome of the present tournament.
  • The Tournament Begins: Just as this revelation is made, the dome drops, and Telos announces the fight for survival. The Hawks are commanded to battle the forces of the "deadly land of Kamandi".
  • The First Fight: The Hawks immediately find themselves fighting against anthropomorphic Manhawks (brutal, bat-men and rat-men from Kamandi's world), an opponent that contrasts their sci-fi origins with a more post-apocalyptic, animalistic foe.

Key Characters

  • Hawkman (Katar Hol): The Thanagarian policeman version of the character from Earth-One.
  • Hawkwoman (Shayera Hol): Katar's wife and partner, often portrayed as the more hopeful and tactical of the two.
  • Manhawks: Anthropomorphic bat and rat creatures from the world of Kamandi, serving as the primary antagonists for this miniseries.
