Convergence: Justice Society of America #1 (2015), written by Dan Abnett with art by Tom Derenick, features the original Golden Age heroes from Earth-Two who are now elderly and retired, living in a domed version of Metropolis.

Plot Synopsis

For a year, the city has been trapped under a dome that has nullified all superpowers. The issue focuses on the core members of the Justice Society of America (JSA) as they struggle with the realities of aging without their heroic abilities.

  • Life in Retirement: Jay Garrick (The Flash) is shown visiting an unconscious Kent Nelson (Doctor Fate), who has been in a coma since the dome first appeared. Other members, including Alan Scott (Green Lantern) and Carter Hall (Hawkman), are depicted as arthritic and past their prime, adjusting to a quiet life in a city in crisis.
  • The Dome Drops: When Telos finally lifts the dome, the heroes' powers are restored, and they are miraculously rejuvenated to their physical prime.
  • The Tournament: The JSA is commanded to fight for their city’s survival in a multiversal tournament. Their opponents are the formidable forces from the Qward Universe (the Weaponers of Qward).
  • A Deadly Price: While the return of their youth allows them to fight once more, the story hints that this restoration comes with a high cost that will be explored further in the concluding issue.
