Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe One Last Time #1 2025 initiates the final chapter of a trilogy where Deadpool is tasked with a multiversal mission to assassinate evil alternate versions of Marvel heroes. The twist is that, unlike previous series where he killed all heroes in a single universe, this time his murders are framed as a "karmic balancing act" to potentially redeem himself and save the main Marvel 616 universe.

Plot Synopsis

The issue opens with a dejected Deadpool, alone in the aftermath of a prior massacre, when a multiversal explorer named Alphea arrives. She provides Deadpool with teleportation technology and a kill list of "the worst of the worst"—evil, corrupted variants of iconic Marvel characters from across the multiverse.

In this first issue, Deadpool's targets include:

  • Superior Spider-Man: The version where Doctor Octopus has taken over Peter Parker's body and eliminated other heroes.
  • Zombie Punisher: A dangerous, insatiable version of the Punisher as a zombie.
  • Daredevil possessed by the demon The Beast of The Hand.
  • World Breaker Hulk: Deadpool is outmatched by the Hulk variant, but something or someone intervenes and transports Hulk away.

The major turning point in issue #1 occurs when a damaged teleportation device accidentally sends Deadpool to the main Earth-616 universe. There, he sees the Avengers (from Jed MacKay's run) striving to save their world, and Alphea appears to inform him that this is the universe he is meant to save, not destroy, by eliminating the multiversal threats. This shocking revelation reframes his violent quest as a twisted path to heroism and sets the stage for the rest of the miniseries.

Creative Team and Themes

The comic is written by Cullen Bunn and features art by Dalibor Talajić, the same team as the original Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe.

  • Art Style: The artwork uses a dark, gritty palette, reminiscent of 70s horror films, highlighting the explicit violence and making this iteration of Deadpool more terrifying and less "sassy" than his mainstream counterpart.
  • Themes: The series explores themes of redemption, morality, and the nature of reality, as Deadpool's typical fourth-wall-breaking awareness is channeled into a grim mission with an unexpected purpose. The story is a meta-commentary on the "Deadpool Kills" concept itself, adding a new layer by having him target only the corrupted versions of heroes.
