Issue Plot Summary: "The Fallen"
- Stranded on Earth-Prime: Five years prior, during Apokolips' initial devastating assault on Earth-2, DeSaad fell into a malfunctioning Boom Tube. Instead of returning home to Apokolips, he found himself stranded entirely alone on Earth-Prime.
- Feeding on Agony: To recharge his power, DeSaad requires human suffering. Upon arriving off the coast of Hawaii, he enters a hospital in Honolulu. By subtly whispering to a security guard, he triggers a horrific mass shooting inside the facility so he can gorge himself on the resulting panic and pain.
- Building an Empire: Fast-forwarding four years, DeSaad establishes a secret fortress in the Congo. Operating as a hidden criminal overlord, he manufactures complex Apokoliptian weaponry and seeds them into active global warzones to create a massive, continuous cycle of shrapnel-induced suffering to feed on.
- The Unbreakable Artist: DeSaad uses highly advanced scrying globes to monitor humanity's pain, but he becomes deeply unnerved by an unnamed, ordinary comic book artist who completely refuses to succumb to despair or pain. Frustrated by this human's mental resilience, DeSaad steps through a portal to confront the man face-to-face.
- The Overarching Goal: Despite building an empire of torment, DeSaad's ultimate goal mirrors Power Girl and Huntress—he has the physical Boom Tube technology but desperately lacks the massive power source required to open a portal back home.
Continuity Significance
Though branded under the Earth 2 banner, this story directly serves as a tie-in and structural prequel to the New 52 "Worlds' Finest" series, establishing why DeSaad is secretly hunting Michael Holt (Mister Terrific) for his inter-dimensional gateway technology on Earth-Prime.
