Final Crisis: Rogues' Revenge #1, published on July 16, 2008, is the first of a three-issue miniseries that reunites the acclaimed creative team of Geoff Johns and Scott Kolins. This series serves as a critical tie-in to the Final Crisis event, focusing on the Flash’s legendary Rogues Gallery as they deal with the fallout of their involuntary role in the death of Bart Allen (the fourth Flash).
The issue follows the core Rogues—Captain Cold, Mirror Master, Weather Wizard, and Heat Wave—as they return to Keystone City after escaping the prison planet seen in Salvation Run.
-
Disbandment and Guilt: Haunted by their violation of the "number one rule" (never kill a speedster), the group arrives at their hideout only to find it occupied by a gang of young delinquents led by a new Trickster (Axel Walker). After brutally evicting the squatters, Captain Cold declares the Rogues finished.
-
The Secret Society Invitation: The villainous Libra attempts to recruit the Rogues into his new Secret Society of Super-Villains. Captain Cold defiantly rejects the offer, signaling that the Rogues will not join Darkseid’s cause.
-
One Last Score: The team’s plan for quiet retirement is shattered when they learn that Inertia, the villain who manipulated them into killing Bart Allen, has escaped from the Flash Museum. Breaking their rule one final time, they vow to hunt and kill Inertia for revenge.
-
A New Flash Threat: The issue concludes with Inertia being freed by Zoom, who intends to train the young speedster as a new "Kid Flash," while the Rogues begin their vengeful hunt.
