Fire & Ice: When Hell Freezes Over #1 (released April 9, 2025) is about the dynamic duo dealing with a post-Absolute Power world where their powers have been switched: Fire now wields ice and Ice commands flames. This unexpected side effect leads them back to Smallville, where a magical mishap during karaoke night makes their situation even worse.

Story Synopsis

After briefly rejoining the Justice League during the Absolute Power event, Bea da Costa (Fire) and Tora Olafsdotter (Ice) find themselves in an unexpected predicament: their powers are swapped. Fire is now shooting ice, and Ice is bursting into flames, a situation that clashes with their personalities and control.

  • Regrouping in Smallville: Unable to find a solution and realizing their uncontrollable powers make them a menace to the public, the best friends retreat to Smallville, the town they had previously stayed in, for a quiet reset.
  • The Mishap: Fire, ever the hot-head, is impatient with their predicament. During a karaoke night with friends like Zatanna and Linka (Gorilla Grodd's sister), she secretly attempts a quick fix by using a magical artifact (implied to be a "Monkey's Paw") from Zatanna's bag of tricks.
  • The Escalation: This impulsive use of magic goes wrong, leading to a catastrophic event that makes their power-swapping predicament worse and affects the entire small town of New Kooey, where many residents also find their bodies and powers swapped.
  • The Path to Hell: The issue sets the stage for the rest of the six-issue series, where the only apparent way to fix the mess is to travel to the bowels of Hell to retrieve a mystical artifact—a ring that once belonged to the Lords of Order.

The comic, written by Joanne Starer and drawn by Stephen Byrne, is a comedy that explores themes of identity, self-worth tied to abilities, and the strength of the characters' friendship amidst the chaos.
