Green Lantern # 1 (Volume 7, published in 2021) centers on an intergalactic summit between the newly formed United Planets and the Guardians of the Universe that ends in disaster, leading to the destruction of the Central Power Battery and the dispersal of the Green Lantern Corps across the cosmos.

Main Plot

The issue opens with an intergalactic summit on Oa, where the Guardians of the Universe and the new United Planets organization are negotiating the Corps' future role as a peacekeeping force under the United Planets' jurisdiction. Corps Leader John Stewart represents the Green Lanterns, acting as both a soldier and a diplomat in the tense meeting. He is accompanied by the powerful, yet unstable, Teen Lantern (Keli Quintela).

During the summit, a terrorist attack occurs, perpetrated by emissaries from the Sorcerer's World of Zerox who seek vengeance against the Guardians for past transgressions. The attack escalates rapidly, leading to the catastrophic destruction of the Central Power Battery, which powers all Green Lantern rings across the universe.

The massive energy discharge cuts off most Lanterns from their power and strands many of them in deep space or the "Dark Sectors". John Stewart, Jo Mullein (a Lantern with a unique ring that operates differently), and Teen Lantern (whose gauntlet also functions independently) are among the few with working power sources. The event leaves the Corps in disarray and sets up a new status quo where the universe is without its main protectors and the remaining Lanterns must uncover the truth behind the attack and try to save their lost comrades.
