Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn II # 1 1991 VF/NM

Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn II #1 (1991) is the first issue of a six-part miniseries that serves as a direct sequel to the original Emerald Dawn. It explores Hal Jordan's earliest days as a Green Lantern while he simultaneously serves a 90-day prison sentence for a drunk driving conviction. 

Plot and Storyline

The issue, titled "The Powers That Be," focuses on Hal Jordan attempting to reconcile his new cosmic responsibilities with his legal consequences on Earth. 

• The Sentence: Following the events of the previous series, Hal pleads guilty to driving under the influence and is sentenced by a judge to three months in a maximum-security prison to be used as a "public example".
• Prison Conflict: While in his cell, Hal's cellmate is mysteriously stabbed in the back with a shiv, making Hal the prime suspect and forcing him into an interrogation.
• Guy Gardner's Role: During his imprisonment, Hal is visited by his caseworker, Guy Gardner, who is portrayed here as a former college football standout attempting to help Hal navigate his legal situation.
• Sinestro’s Introduction: On the planet Oa, the Guardians of the Universe decide Hal is too reckless and lacks proper training. They appoint Sinestro, the highly effective but authoritarian Lantern of Sector 1417, to serve as Hal's mentor. The issue ends with Sinestro's first appearance before Hal in his prison cell.
