Green Lantern & Sentinel: Heart of Darkness #1 (1998) begins a three-issue limited series where Kyle Rayner (Green Lantern) and Alan Scott (Sentinel) team up to investigate the disappearance of Jade, Alan Scott's daughter and Kyle's girlfriend.

Main Plot

The story begins with the sudden disappearance of the heroine Jade (Jennifer-Lynn Hayden). Her father, the Golden Age hero Alan Scott (who was known as Sentinel at the time to distinguish himself from the other Green Lanterns), is shaken and turns to the current Green Lantern, Kyle Rayner, for help.

Their investigation leads them to the mental institution where Brainwave Jr., Jade's former boyfriend and a powerful psychic who had gone insane, is a patient. While at the asylum, Alan Scott recounts his origin story to Kyle and they discover that Brainwave Jr., though seemingly catatonic, reacts to Jade's name.

Suddenly, they are confronted by Obsidian (Todd Rice), Jade's brother, whose shadowy powers have been corrupted by the Starheart (the mystical entity from which Alan Scott's powers originate). Obsidian has come to kill Brainwave Jr., whom he blames for his sister's disappearance, and the issue ends in a confrontation between the three heroes and the corrupted Obsidian.
