Guy Gardner #1 October 1992 (later retitled Guy Gardner: Warrior) launched the character's first long-running solo series. It captures the peak of Guy's "macho" 90s persona after he was forced to surrender his Green Lantern ring to Hal Jordan.
The Story: "A New Guy In Town"
The issue sets up a new status quo for Guy as he attempts to redefine himself without the Corps.
- The Power Source: Guy is now powered by Sinestro's yellow power ring, which he stole from the Crypts of the Green Lantern Corps. Unlike the green rings, the yellow ring's power is erratic and speaks to him in the language of Qward.
- The Move to NYC: Looking for fame and a "war on scum," Guy moves to New York City. He hires a sleazy press agent, Milos Grauer, to monetize his superhero brand.
- The Conflict: The Guardians of the Universe send Kilowog to Earth to forcibly retrieve the yellow ring, leading to a massive brawl between the two former friends.
- The Cliffhanger: During the fight, Guy’s ring suddenly runs out of power, leaving him vulnerable and powerless in the middle of a battle.
Creative Team
The series was spearheaded by the team that defined Guy’s most famous era:
- Writer: Gerard Jones.
- Penciler: Joe Staton.
- Inker: Terry Beatty.
- Colorist: Anthony Tollin.
