Hawk & Dove # 1, published in June 1989, launched the third volume and first long-running ongoing series for the titular duo. Written by Karl and Barbara Kesel, the series picks up immediately after their 1988–1989 miniseries, shifting the focus from 1960s political squabbling to a supernatural exploration of the Lords of Chaos and Order.

Story Synopsis: "Gauntlet"

The debut issue re-establishes Hank Hall (Hawk) and Dawn Granger (Dove) as a tenuous superhero team based in Washington, D.C..

  • The Status Quo: Hank remains a hot-headed agent of Chaos, still struggling with the loss of his brother (the original Dove), while Dawn continues as the stoic agent of Order.
  • Cross-Over Ties: The issue features flashbacks to the Invasion! event, elaborating on the duo’s role in fighting the Alien Alliance.
  • New Threats: The team faces new antagonists, including a giant robot named M.A.C. and the mysterious masterminds behind recent crimes in Georgetown.
  • The Team Dynamic: Much of the tension focuses on the dissent between the two heroes as they attempt to balance their contradictory fighting styles while being launched in a new, deadly direction.

Creative Team
