Immortal Legend Batman #1 launches a far-future, sci-fi DC Elseworlds limited series deeply inspired by Japanese tokusatsu (Power Rangers, Kamen Rider) and classic space Westerns.

Written by Kyle Higgins and Mat Groom with art by Erica D'Urso and character designs by Dan Mora, the debut issue completely overhauls Batman's lore.

Core Plot & Setting

The story takes place centuries after humanity abandoned Earth and mastered dark matter technology to travel the stars. However, these experiments permanently shattered the barrier into a shadow universe, unleashing malevolent, destructive creatures known as "Shadows".

To fight them back, three legendary warriors emerged using specialized elemental paths: the Ways of the Robin, Nightwing, and Batman. Rather than being a single unaging hero, these mantles are cosmic titles secretly passed down through successive generations of protector knights.

The Issue #1 Twist

The opening issue operates as a sci-fi murder mystery. On a remote mining planetoid, Mayor Harvey Dent and local Sheriff Bruce Wayne are investigating a series of gruesome killings. Suddenly, a cosmic, armor-clad Batman attacks them, accusing Sheriff Bruce Wayne of being a "Shadow" parasite responsible for the murders.

In a massive narrative twist, it is revealed that Sheriff Bruce Wayne is actually a shapeshifting Shadow impostor known as the Two-Faced Man, who relished embedding himself in the community to kill unnoticed. The armor-clad attacker unmasks to reveal that he is the true Bruce Wayne—the current wandering Immortal Legend Batman—who uses his tokusatsu "Become the Night" morphing call and a finishing move called the "Bat Press" to vaporize the monster.

The Broader Conflict

A backup story reveals that the current Batman (Bruce) has become completely consumed by grief following the loss of his parents to a shadow attack, abandoning his partners and his duties. Because Bruce's methods have grown increasingly erratic, his predecessor has tasked his son, Thomas Elliot (Hush), with hunting down Bruce Wayne to reclaim the Batman cosmic mantle by force.
