Justice League: Gods and Monsters # 1 2015 VF/NM

Justice League: Gods and Monsters # 1 (2015) is a three-issue prequel series to the DC Universe animated movie of the same name. Written by J.M. DeMatteis and Bruce Timm, the comic explores a dark alternate universe where a trio of ruthless heroes—who are not the Clark Kent, Bruce Wayne, or Diana Prince you know—enforce order through brutal means. 

Plot Summary

• A New Evolution: The story follows three dangerous loners—Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman—who are brought together by Jackson Alpert. Alpert claims his "Forever People" are the next stage of human evolution and invites the heroes to join his vision for the future, forcing them to decide if he is a savior or a conqueror.
• Tense Dynamics: While the film shows the team already established, this prequel series depicts their early, uneasy meetings. Superman is depicted as cocky and self-centered, while Wonder Woman wants little to do with him, and Batman is viewed as a monster by some and a hero by others. 

The Alternate Heroes

In this "Gods and Monsters" universe, the classic characters are replaced by darker counterparts:

• Superman (Hernan Guerra): The son of General Zod, raised by immigrant farmers in Mexico. He is arrogant and willing to use his powers in gruesome ways to deal with injustice.
• Batman (Kirk Langstrom): A scientist who accidentally transformed himself into a vampire while trying to cure his cancer. He satisfies his need for blood by preying on criminals.
• Wonder Woman (Bekka): A New God from New Genesis and the widow of Orion. Unlike the original Diana, she is a tragic figure who arrived on Earth and lived among a group of hippies.
