Legion Lost # 1, published in September 2011, served as a launch title for DC Comics' "New 52" initiative. Written by Fabian Nicieza and illustrated by Pete Woods, the series follows seven 31st-century Legionnaires who travel back to the 21st century to stop a bio-terrorist but find themselves stranded when their future technology fails.

Story Synopsis: "Run From Tomorrow"

The narrative begins with a high-stakes mission that quickly descends into a desperate struggle for survival in a "barbaric" past.

  • The Mission: Seven heroes travel through time to prevent the villain Alastor from releasing a deadly, mutagenic pathogen known as Hypertaxis.
  • The Disaster: Upon arrival, the team's "Time Bubble" crashes, and their core technology—including their iconic Legion Flight Rings—malfunctions or becomes useless due to the "Flashpoint breakwall".
  • A Brutal Opening: The team initially believes they have succeeded when Timber Wolf captures Alastor. However, Alastor has already been infected, and his subsequent transformation destroys their time-travel vessel.
  • Casualties: The premiere issue ends on a dark note, as team members Gates and Chameleon Girl are seemingly killed in the explosion, leaving the remaining five heroes trapped in the present day.
  • Easter Egg: Like all New 52 #1 issues, the mysterious Pandora makes a brief cameo appearance in the background of a panel.

The "Lost" Roster

The series features a specialized squad of seven Legionnaires, intentionally excluding founding members like Saturn Girl or Cosmic Boy to focus on underutilized characters:

  • Wildfire (Team Leader)
  • Dawnstar
  • Timber Wolf
  • Tyroc
  • Tellus
  • Chameleon Girl (Yera Allon; presumed dead)
  • Gates (presumed dead)
