Legion Lost # 1, published in September 2011, served as a launch title for DC Comics' "New 52" initiative. Written by Fabian Nicieza and illustrated by Pete Woods, the series follows seven 31st-century Legionnaires who travel back to the 21st century to stop a bio-terrorist but find themselves stranded when their future technology fails.
Story Synopsis: "Run From Tomorrow"
The narrative begins with a high-stakes mission that quickly descends into a desperate struggle for survival in a "barbaric" past.
-
The Mission: Seven heroes travel through time to prevent the villain Alastor from releasing a deadly, mutagenic pathogen known as Hypertaxis.
-
The Disaster: Upon arrival, the team's "Time Bubble" crashes, and their core technology—including their iconic Legion Flight Rings—malfunctions or becomes useless due to the "Flashpoint breakwall".
-
A Brutal Opening: The team initially believes they have succeeded when Timber Wolf captures Alastor. However, Alastor has already been infected, and his subsequent transformation destroys their time-travel vessel.
-
Casualties: The premiere issue ends on a dark note, as team members Gates and Chameleon Girl are seemingly killed in the explosion, leaving the remaining five heroes trapped in the present day.
-
Easter Egg: Like all New 52 #1 issues, the mysterious Pandora makes a brief cameo appearance in the background of a panel.
The "Lost" Roster
The series features a specialized squad of seven Legionnaires, intentionally excluding founding members like Saturn Girl or Cosmic Boy to focus on underutilized characters:
-
Wildfire (Team Leader)
-
Dawnstar
-
Timber Wolf
-
Tyroc
-
Tellus
-
Chameleon Girl (Yera Allon; presumed dead)
-
Gates (presumed dead)
