Magnus Robot Fighter #25, published by Valiant Comics in June 1993, is a landmark issue titled "Flesh and Steel". Written by John Ostrander with art by James Brock, this issue is highly regarded for revealing the hero's true origins and introducing his iconic new battle armor.

Story Synopsis: "Flesh and Steel"

The narrative serves as a pivotal turning point in the series as the war against the Malevs (sentient, planet-consuming machines) intensifies.

  • The Journey Home: Magnus and the Geomancer, Rokkie, travel to the undersea base where Magnus was originally raised by the robot 1-A.
  • The Origin Reveal: Magnus finally learns the truth of his past. He discovers an ancient letter from his mother, revealing he was born in the 20th century during the Unity War and brought to the future by the Geomancer.
  • Transformation: 1-A reveals he has rebuilt himself into two units: the bird-like "ASA" and the "Hard Rob". He presents Magnus with a specialized suit of battle armor better suited for the global machine war than his traditional red tunic.
