Marvel Knights # 1 2000 NM

Marvel Knights # 1, published in July 2000, is the first issue of a new series focusing on Marvel's street-level heroes as they are forced to team up to investigate an unusual, super-normal threat. 

The issue, titled "The Burrowers," begins with the Punisher (Frank Castle) discovering a warehouse full of dead Russian mobsters and a strange, fuming hole in the floor. Believing the situation to be "extra-normal" and beyond his usual scope, he decides to contact other heroes. 

• Assembling the Team: The Punisher approaches Daredevil (Matt Murdock) for help, leading to Daredevil, along with Black Widow (Natasha Romanoff) and Dagger (Tandy Bowen), investigating the warehouse.
• Other Happenings: Elsewhere, the master of kung fu, Shang-Chi, is protecting a young girl named Lan when a similar hole opens up and snatches her away from him. Concurrently, the Asgardian villain Ulik the Rock Troll is interrogating a man about the whereabouts of a powerful artifact called the Ragnahorn.
• Forming a Non-Team: The disparate heroes are drawn into this central mystery involving the holes and Ulik, effectively forming an unlikely street-level strike force. The Punisher observes them from afar, feeling they need his specific brand of help, while Dagger reveals she is searching for her partner, Cloak (Tyrone Johnson). The team eventually expands to include Moon Knight and Luke Cage in subsequent issues.
