Marvel Knights 20th # 1 is the first issue of a six-part miniseries released in November 2018 that celebrates the 20th anniversary of the influential Marvel Knights imprint with a storyline centered on a world that has forgotten its heroes.

The story opens with a blind man (implied to be Matt Murdock/Daredevil) in a cemetery, inexplicably drawn to the grave of Karen Page, but with no memory of who he is or why he is there. The broader world has no memory of any superheroes or their exploits.

  • Amnesia and Awakening: A burly police officer, revealed to be Frank Castle/Punisher, approaches Matt with a "wild story". Castle, whose memories were "awakened" by Bruce Banner/Hulk, has a list of other heroes to find and wake up.
  • Remembering the Past: As Matt interacts with Castle, his memories of being Daredevil begin to return, a process described as a "quest for identity".
  • The Mystery: The issue sets up a central mystery: Who erased the memories of the heroes and the world, and why? The characters, facing a "colorless world without heroes," must unravel this threat, which the creative team suggests can only be handled by the specific street-level style of the Marvel Knights. Other characters like Elektra and Black Panther are drawn into the emerging narrative as the series progresses.

The comic was written by Donny Cates and features art by Travel Foreman, aiming to recapture the gritty and impactful storytelling style of the original Marvel Knights line.
