Midnighter # 1 2007, marked the first solo ongoing series for the lethal WildStorm tactician. Released as part of the "Worldstorm" soft reboot, it follows the character as he is blackmailed into a high-stakes mission that crosses through time.

"Killing Machine, Part One" 

Feeling a growing disconnect from his Authority teammates and his husband, Apollo, Midnighter seeks purpose through a solo mission in Afghanistan. Upon attempting to return to the Carrier, he is ambushed by mercenaries wearing "shimmer suits" that hide them from his combat-predictive brain. 

• The Capture: Midnighter is kidnapped and taken to a facility near Hamburg.
• The Ultimatum: His captor, a man named Paulus, reveals he has surgically replaced Midnighter’s second heart with a remote-detonated bomb.
• The Mission: To have the bomb removed, Midnighter must use his lethal skills to travel back in time and assassinate a young Adolf Hitler.
