Original Sin # 0 2014 NM-

Original Sin # 0 (April 23, 2014) is the prologue to Marvel's major 2014 summer event. Written by Mark Waid with art by Jim Cheung and Paco Medina, the issue focuses on Sam Alexander (Nova) and his burgeoning friendship with Uatu the Watcher, providing essential backstory on Uatu's mission before his murder in the main series. 

"Who is the Watcher?"

The narrative is driven by Nova's inquisitive nature as he visits the Watcher's citadel on the moon to find answers about his missing father. 

• Sam’s Quest: Looking for a mentor figure, Sam brings a gift to Uatu—a simple gesture that contrasts with the Watcher’s typically cold, non-interfering demeanor.
• The Vision: Uatu grants Sam a fraction of his cosmic perspective, showing him visions of past, present, and alternative timelines. This experience almost overwhelms the young hero, highlighting the vast, secret knowledge the Watcher guards.
• Uatu's Purpose: The issue explores why Uatu watches, delving into his personal history and the tragedy of his race's oath of non-interference. 

This issue serves as the "calm before the storm," humanizing the Watcher just before he is found dead with his eyes removed in Original Sin #1. It primes the audience for the "murder mystery" that follows, where these cosmic secrets are unleashed as "bombs" that rock the Marvel Universe.
