Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #1 is a modern-era launch issue published by Marvel Comics on June 21, 2017. Part of a company-wide initiative to offer a streamlined, secondary companion book alongside The Amazing Spider-Man, this issue intentionally strips away complex global corporate plots to deliver a "back-to-basics" friendly neighborhood street-level story in New York City.

The Plot & Storyline

The premiere issue weaves classic Peter Parker slice-of-life humor with a developing high-tech superhero mystery:

• The Routine & Firefight: The issue opens with Peter hanging out with his longtime superhero friend, Johnny Storm (the Human Torch). While out on patrol, Spider-Man attempts to stop an armed robbery targeting a stand-up comedian named Rebecca London. When Peter's web-shooters malfunction, Ant-Man (Scott Lang) hilariously steps in to save the day.
• The Hacked Tech: Spider-Man collects a modified Stark Phone from the robbers. To figure out how anyone managed to hack Tony Stark's un-hackable tech, Peter takes it to a genius tinkerer named Mason and his assistant, Uatu Jackson. They trace the phone's signal directly to Chicago.
• The Ironheart & Sister Twists: Peter flies out to Chicago and tracks the source code down to the home of Riri Williams (Ironheart), leading to a superhero misunderstanding and a brief skirmish. Meanwhile, back in New York, Johnny Storm is waiting at Peter’s apartment for a planned movie night when a mysterious woman knocks on the door, identifying herself as Teresa Parker—Peter’s long-lost sister.
