Star Trek Generations (1994) is the seventh film in the franchise and the first to feature the cast of The Next Generation. It is famously known for "passing the torch" by bringing together Captains James T. Kirk and Jean-Luc Picard. DC Comics also released a 64-page official comic adaptation in 1994 alongside the film's release.
Plot Summary
The story spans two different centuries, linked by a mysterious energy ribbon called the Nexus, a realm where time has no meaning and individuals can live out their greatest joys.
- 23rd Century: During the maiden voyage of the USS Enterprise-B, the ship rescues El-Aurian refugees from the Nexus ribbon. Captain Kirk is presumed dead after an explosion rips through the hull while he is saving the ship.
- 24th Century: Seventy-eight years later, Captain Picard and the Enterprise-D crew encounter Dr. Tolian Soran, a survivor of the 23rd-century rescue mission. Obsessed with returning to the Nexus, Soran plans to destroy entire star systems to alter the ribbon's path.
- The Meeting: Picard enters the Nexus and finds Kirk, who has been living there since the 23rd century. Picard convinces Kirk to return with him to the present to stop Soran.
- The Climax: Working together on Veridian III, the two captains stop Soran's missile, but Kirk is fatally injured in the process.
