Suicide Squad: Black Files # 1 is the first issue of a six-issue limited series that ran from late 2018 through 2019. This oversized issue features two distinct stories focusing on the mystical and supernatural side of Task Force X. 

Story 1: "Revenge of Kobra"

• Creative Team: Written by Mike W. Barr with art by Philippe Briones.
• Plot: The story follows Katana as she faces the vengeance of the terrorist cult leader Kobra, who seeks retribution for the death of his beloved Eve.
• Key Conflict: Kobra attempts to steal Katana's soul and her mystical Soultaker sword. The issue ends on a cliffhanger where a Kobra leader possesses Katana's body while her spirit is trapped within her own sword.
• Supporting Cast: Includes Halo and Maseo Yamashiro (as a spirit). 

Story 2: "Suicide Squad Black"

• Creative Team: Written by Jai Nitz with art by Scot Eaton.
• Plot: Amanda Waller assembles a new "expendable coven" of magic-based operatives to hunt down Sebastian Faust, a rogue government arcane expert.
