Supergirl # 1 (DC Comics, released May 14, 2025) is the debut issue of an ongoing series that follows Kara Zor-El as she leaves Metropolis to find an independent life in Midvale, only to discover an impostor has already taken her place.

The story begins with Kara Zor-El as a valued but restless member of the Super-Family in Metropolis. Seeking her own path and an identity separate from her famous cousin, Superman, she decides to return to her adoptive hometown of Midvale, where she lived as Linda Danvers.

Upon arriving in Midvale, Kara is shocked to find that "Supergirl" is the town's biggest celebrity, with posters and merchandise everywhere. The problem is, the person in the promotional material looks slightly different and is not Kara. When Kara, as Supergirl, performs a heroic act, the townspeople boo her, thinking she is the impostor. The fake Supergirl, who is later revealed to be the Kandorian Lesla-Lar, then attacks Kara.

The issue ends on a cliffhanger where Kara returns to her adoptive parents' home, but they do not recognize her, and the impostor arrives, posing as the real Kara Danvers.

  • Silver Age Inspiration: The series is heavily inspired by the Silver and Bronze Age continuity of Supergirl comics, reintroducing characters like Lesla-Lar and the Yellow Ring of Nor-Kann, and utilizing elements like thought balloons.
  • New Reader Friendly: Reviewers noted that the issue serves as an excellent starting point for new readers, providing enough context to understand Kara's current situation without relying heavily on past continuity.
