Superman #75 (1993) (released in November 1992 with a January 1993 cover date) is one of the most culturally significant comic books ever published, famously depicting the Death of Superman. Written and illustrated by Dan Jurgens, the landmark issue serves as the grand finale of the "Death of Superman" storyline.

The Core Plot

The entire issue is formatted with full-page splash panels (and a final multi-page foldout spread) to convey the massive, bone-shattering scale of the fight:

  • The Final Stand: The monstrous, genetically engineered killing machine has torn a path of absolute destruction across America, defeating the Justice League and arriving in the streets of Metropolis.
  • The Brawl at the Planet: Superman stands as Earth’s absolute last line of defense. The two titans engage in a brutal, unrestricted brawl right outside the Daily Planet building, with the force of their blows shattering windows across the city.
  • The Fatal Blows: Summoning every ounce of his remaining strength, Superman delivers a crushing final blow to Doomsday. At the exact same microsecond, Doomsday strikes Superman with an equally devastating, lethal strike. Both combatants collapse into the rubble.
  • The Tragic Ending: A heartbroken Lois Lane rushes into the debris and cradles a dying Man of Steel in her arms. Surrounded by Lois and Jimmy Olsen, Superman fades away, sacrificing his life to save his adoptive homeworld.
