Superman: Lois and Clark #1, published by DC Comics on October 14, 2015, is a highly significant modern-era comic book. Written by legendary Superman scribe Dan Jurgens with artwork by Lee Weeks, this 8-issue miniseries served as a vital bridge between DC's controversial The New 52 relaunch and the DC Rebirth era.

The Real-World Context (Why it Matters)

In 2011, DC Comics completely rebooted its timeline with The New 52, erasing the married, veteran Superman and replacing him with a younger, single version who dated Wonder Woman.

Following the 2015 Convergence crossover event, DC surprised fans by revealing that the beloved, Post-Crisis married version of Superman and Lois Lane had actually survived. This series tracks what happened to them after they were dropped into the new, completely unfamiliar New 52 universe.

Core Plot & Synopsis: "Arrival, Part I"

The premiere issue establishes a fascinating, deeply secret status quo for the original power couple:

  • Living on the Down-Low: Clark, Lois, and their nine-year-old son, Jonathan Kent, are living quietly under assumed names as "the Whites" on a farm in California. Because a younger, public Superman already exists in this universe, Clark and Lois must remain completely hidden to preserve the timeline and protect their family.
  • The Secret Heroics: Clark cannot sit idly by while people suffer. Operating entirely in the shadows away from the Justice League's radar, he secretly saves lives wearing a sleek, unrecognizable black-and-silver solar suit combined with a full beard. He uses his knowledge of his old history to proactively intercept threats before they can fully form in this new world.
  • Lois's Underground Journalism: Lois also refuses to stop fighting. Under the pen name "Author X," she writes hard-hitting political exposés and crime books from her home, tracking an emerging criminal syndicate known as Intergang.
  • The Oblivious Son: The emotional core of the issue focuses on young Jon Kent. He has no idea that his parents are famous multiversal refugees or that his father is the greatest hero to ever live—though he is beginning to suspect that his family isn't normal.

Collector Status (First Appearance of Jon Kent)

This issue is heavily collected because it features the very first mainline appearance of Jonathan Kent as a child. Jon went on to become one of the most prominent modern figures in DC history, eventually taking up the mantle of Superboy and later becoming a primary Superman alongside his father.
