Superman: The Last Family of Krypton #1 (2010) is the premier issue of a three-part alternate-reality miniseries published by DC Comics under its famous Elseworlds banner. It explores an altered timeline based on one major tweak to the classic origin story: baby Kal-El does not travel to Earth alone; instead, his parents, Jor-El and Lara, survive and escape alongside him.

Plot Synopsis

The story opens with the destruction of Krypton, but rather than sending just a single-infant rocket, Jor-El successfully builds a larger spacecraft that safely carries the entire House of El across space to Earth. Upon landing, the presence of three super-powered beings completely reshapes the landscape of the DC Universe:

• Jor-El's Mission: Plagued by immense survivor's guilt over his failure to save the rest of his people, Jor-El establishes "The Ra Corporation". He uses his hyper-advanced Kryptonian knowledge to aggressively advance Earth's technology, attempting to turn the planet into a utopia to redeem himself.
• Lara's Legacy: Lara chooses a separate humanitarian path. She embraces human culture and builds a massive spiritual and self-help movement known as "The Shaddis Way," helping humans navigate their mental health and emotional well-being.
• Clark's Childhood: To give their son a proper human upbringing while they focus on changing the world, Jor-El and Lara arrange a "boarding school" setup for Kal-El. He is placed in the care of Jonathan and Martha Kent, growing up under the human identity of Clark Kent, though heavily detached from his biological parents' massive global legacy.

As Kal-El grows into his teenage years, cracks begin to form within the family dynamic. Jor-El’s growing obsession with controlling human progress starts to distance him from Lara, setting a complex foundation for how Earth handles the presence of a supreme alien family.
