Superman Unlimited #1, released on May 21, 2025, marks the start of a brand-new ongoing DC Comics series by writer Dan Slott and artist Rafael Albuquerque. The issue introduces a major status quo shift where a massive asteroid shower litters the Earth with Kryptonite, making Superman's greatest weakness accessible even to petty criminals.

Plot Synopsis

  • The Asteroid Crisis: The story begins with a Metropolis-sized asteroid hurtling toward Earth. Superman is dispatched to destroy it, only to discover that it is a solid mass of Green Kryptonite.
  • A World of Danger: While Superman manages to stop the extinction-level threat, the asteroid's explosion showers the planet with Kryptonite fragments. This leads to an "arms race" for the resource, with organizations like Intergang arming their foot soldiers with Kryptonite bullets and shivs.
  • The Daily Planet 2.0: The series introduces a reimagined Daily Planet, which has merged with Galaxy Communications to become a global multimedia network. While Lois Lane remains editor-in-chief, the staff expands to satellite branches worldwide, supported by a new IT specialist from Gorilla City named Tee-Nah.
  • The Three-Month Gap: After destroying the asteroid, Clark Kent wakes up from a three-month coma to find that the world has fundamentally changed due to the abundance of Kryptonite.
