The Adventures of the Thing # 1, published by Marvel Comics in April 1992, is a reprint mini-series that reissues classic Marvel Two-in-One stories. This first issue, titled "Remembrance of Things Past!", is a reprint of the story from Marvel Two-In-One #50.

"Remembrance of Things Past!"

The story, originally published in 1979 and written by John Byrne, focuses on Ben Grimm's longing to become human again and his attempt to alter his past.

  • The Conflict: Reed Richards presents Ben Grimm with a potential serum to restore his human form, but realizes it would only have been effective during an earlier phase of Ben's transformation.
  • The Action: Believing he'd be better off not becoming the Thing, a disheartened Ben uses Doctor Doom's time machine and the serum to travel to the early days of the Fantastic Four.
  • The Confrontation: Ben encounters his younger, pre-Thing self. The past Ben, skeptical of the future version, attacks, resulting in a prolonged fight between the two.
  • The Resolution: The future Ben defeats his past self and administers the serum. The past Ben reverts to human form, while the future Ben remains the Thing. Returning to the present, Ben learns from Reed that his own history cannot be changed, and his actions created an alternate reality where his past self is human.
