The Eternals # 1 published by Marvel Comics in October 1985, is the first issue of a 12-issue limited series that expanded on the mythology created by Jack Kirby in the 1970s. This series is known as Volume 2 of the Eternals' publications. 

  • A New Era: The series picks up after recent conflicts, with the Eternals attempting to exist secretly among humanity. Zuras has temporarily perished, and his daughter, Thena, assumes the role of the Prime Eternal.
  • The Deviant Threat: A new, ambitious Deviant priest named Ghaur discovers the location of the defeated, "Dreaming" Celestial and seeks to harness its immense power, setting up a major conflict with the Eternals.
  • Internal Strife: The issue introduces political maneuvering within the Deviant priesthood and the Eternals' struggles to remain united under Thena's leadership, which is complicated by her controversial relationship with the Deviant warlord Kro.
  • First Appearance: The issue features the first cameo appearance of the Eternal, Phastos.
