The Invaders #1 (1975) is the first issue of the ongoing series (following a prelude in Giant-Size Invaders #1), which tells "untold tales" of Marvel's primary World War II superhero team. It was written by Roy Thomas and drawn by Frank Robbins and Vince Colletta.
The issue contains three parts of a story arc titled "The Ring of the Nebulas!".
- World War II Setting: The story is set during World War II and features the core team of the Invaders: Captain America, Bucky Barnes, the original Human Torch (Jim Hammond), his sidekick Toro (Thomas Raymond), and Namor the Sub-Mariner.
- The Mission: The team travels to France to investigate and confront a new Nazi villain named Brain Drain.
- A Mysterious Woman: During their mission, Captain America rescues a strange, beautiful blonde woman named Hilda. This mysterious woman becomes central to the conflict as her presence leads to a confrontation with a new cosmic threat: the "Star-Gods" Donar, Froh, and Loga.
- The Conflict: The heroes find themselves battling forces from both the Axis powers and the powerful, god-like beings who are not part of the normal WWII conflict, expanding the scope of the war for the team beyond conventional human enemies.
