The Multiversity # 1, released on August 20, 2014, is the debut of a nine-part meta-fictional epic written by Grant Morrison and illustrated by Ivan Reis. It serves as a cosmos-spanning "Justice League of the Multiverse" story that pits heroes from 52 parallel Earths against a terrifying threat known as The Gentry.

"House of Heroes"

The story follows a desperate call for help across the Multiverse to stop the Gentry, extra-dimensional parasites that corrupt realities through "haunted" comic books.

  • The Sacrifice: The Last Monitor, Nix Uotan, travels to Earth-7 to investigate a cosmic emergency. He is captured and corrupted by the Gentry, who plan to use him as a vector to infect the rest of the 52 Earths.
  • The Call to Arms: On Earth-23, President Superman (Calvin Ellis) is pulled through a multiversal doorway into the Hall of Heroes (also called Valla-Hal). There, he meets an assemblage of heroes from across the Multiverse, including Captain Carrot (Earth-26) and the Thunderer (Earth-7).
  • The Mission: The team travels to Earth-8 (a world mirroring Marvel’s heroes) to halt the Gentry’s invasion, only to be confronted by the now-corrupted and villainous Nix Uotan.

A unique element of the series is that heroes on one Earth read about the adventures of heroes on another Earth in the form of comic books. These comics serve as warnings, clues, and even weapons in the battle against the Gentry.

  • Writer: Grant Morrison.
  • Artists: Ivan Reis (Pencils), Joe Prado (Inks), and Nei Ruffino (Colors).
