The Punisher Summer Special # 1, published by Marvel Comics in August 1991, is a 52-page anthology issue featuring four distinct, self-contained stories about Frank Castle's war on crime. This Copper Age one-shot is notable for its diverse creative team and depictions of the Punisher’s brutal methods during his peak popularity in the early 1990s.

  • "Bombs 'R' Us": Written by Pat Mills with art by Val Mayerik. In this story, the Punisher hunts down a "crazy masochist" and former comrade who served with him in Vietnam.
  • "Crossed Purposes": Written by Peter David with art by Mark Texeira. After his life is saved by the son of a mob boss, Castle must navigate a moral dilemma regarding his criminal benefactor.
  • "Independence Day": Written by Dan Slott with art by Mike Harris. This story follows the Punisher as he assists a police officer in apprehending one of America's most wanted fugitives.
  • "Wish Granted": Written by Will Murray with art by Rodney Ramos. The Punisher confronts a group of young Middle Eastern terrorists who are characterized as having a death wish.
  • Artistic Contributions: The cover features pencils by Roderick Delgado and inks by Michael Bair. The interior front and back covers showcase stylized Punisher skull art by Jimmy Palmiotti.
  • Lost Media Ad: The issue includes an advertisement for a Punisher/Fury graphic novel by artist Jim Lee that was famously never completed or published.
