Turok, Dinosaur Hunter # 1, published by Valiant Comics in July 1993, is a modern reboot of the classic Gold Key character, integrating him into the established Valiant Universe. The issue, titled "Cold Blood Blazing," was written by David Michelinie with art by Bart Sears and Randy Elliott.

Story Synopsis

The story follows Turok after the events of the "Unity" crossover event, which resulted in the disintegration of the other-dimensional "Lost Land". He is violently hurled through time and space, landing in the jungles of South America (specifically Colombia) in 1987, a century and a half after his own time.

  • A New World: Turok finds himself separated from his friend Andar and in a completely unfamiliar time and place, facing a new kind of threat.
  • Bionisaurs: Mothergod's twisted science has created "bionisaurs" — artificially intelligent dinosaurs enhanced with technology and implants — that now battle Turok for survival.
  • Mon-Ark: The main antagonist of the issue is Mon-Ark, the leader of the bionisaurs and Turok's immediate enemy.
  • Survival and Alliance: Outnumbered, Turok is forced to ally himself with a local drug lord to acquire the weaponry and men needed to fight off the creatures. Although he ultimately defeats Mon-Ark, he discovers that the bionisaurs have begun to reproduce and spread globally, setting the stage for the rest of the series.
