Ultimate Power # 1 2006 VF+

Ultimate Power # 1, published in December 2006 (with an on-sale date of October 11, 2006) by Marvel Comics, launches a nine-issue limited series that serves as a major crossover event between the heroes of the Ultimate Universe and the alternate dimension known as the Supremeverse.

The issue is primarily a setup for a massive inter-dimensional conflict, focusing on the actions of the Ultimate Fantastic Four. 

• Reed's Desperation: Reed Richards is desperate to find a cure for his friend, Ben Grimm (The Thing), who is stuck in his rock-like form. After S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury refuses to fund inter-dimensional research to find a solution, Richards defies orders and sends research probes into various adjacent dimensions on his own.
• The Invasion: Days later, a massive explosion rips through the Baxter Building, the headquarters of the Fantastic Four.
• The Squadron Arrives: A team of powerful costumed superheroes, the Squadron Supreme from the Supremeverse, suddenly appears. They are angry and declare that they have come to arrest the young Reed Richards for "high crimes against their world," setting the stage for a universe-spanning conflict.

The series explores the fallout of the crossover, revealing that a devastating alien organism has consumed much of the Eastern United States in the Squadron Supreme's home dimension, and they believe Reed Richards is responsible. The subsequent issues involve a full-scale battle between the two universes' heroes, with the U.S. government (in the Supremeverse) secretly having created the organism as a weapon, using Richards' probes as a scapegoat.
