Vengeance of Vampirella #1 (2019), published by Dynamite Entertainment, is a comic book that picks up the story 25 years after the original 1994 series, which also had writer Tom Sniegoski at the helm. This issue serves as a 50th-anniversary event for the character, reintroducing her to a world she failed to save. 

The story begins with a narrative framing device, where an elderly woman tells a young girl the legend of Vampirella's death 25 years prior, emphasizing her sacrifice as a hero. In her absence, the Earth has become a post-apocalyptic landscape, ruled by the supernatural monstrosities of Mistress Nyx, the main villain who leads the Chaos Lords. 

Nyx has grown bored in her unchallenged reign. Meanwhile, a small human rebellion group manages to retrieve the mystical Lazarus Book, a tome that requires a blood sacrifice to work. Using this book, they perform a ritual and succeed in resurrecting Vampirella from the grave, hoping she will be their savior against Nyx. 

The issue largely focuses on establishing this desolate new world and the stakes, with Vampirella herself appearing mostly in flashbacks or at the very end when she is resurrected.
