Wonder Woman '77 #1 is the debut issue of a nostalgic, digital-first comic book series published by DC Comics with a digital release in January 2015 (followed by a physical print edition, Wonder Woman '77 Special #1, in May 2015). Written by Marc Andreyko and featuring art by Drew Johnson, the series is a direct continuation of the classic 1970s Wonder Woman television show starring Lynda Carter.
The Retro Premise
Following the success of DC's Batman '66 series, Wonder Woman '77 captures the campy, groovy aesthetic of the late 1970s. It features the explicit artistic likenesses of Lynda Carter as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman and Lyle Waggoner as her Inter-Agency Defense Command (IADC) partner, Steve Trevor.
Because the original television show operated on a strict live-action budget, the comic series was specifically designed to pit this version of Wonder Woman against larger-than-life comic villains that the TV show could never afford to adapt—such as Cheetah, Silver Swan, and Doctor Psycho.
