AAFES 4th Edition (2007), titled The New Avengers: Letters Home, is a special military-exclusive comic book published by Marvel in January 2007. Distributed for free at Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) facilities, it was designed specifically for U.S. service members stationed both in the U.S. and overseas in locations like Iraq and Afghanistan.

"Letters Home"

Despite the "New Avengers" branding on the cover, the actual team does not appear in the story; instead, Captain America leads a unique group of solo heroes.

  • The Conflict: The terrorist organization Hydra seizes control of a vital military communications satellite. This satellite has dual functions: it possesses immense destructive power and serves as the primary routing station for soldiers' holiday messages back to their families.
  • The Mission: Captain America, operating from Avengers Tower, gathers Ghost Rider, Silver Surfer, and The Punisher to retake the satellite.
  • The Goal: The heroes must stop Hydra's threat while ensuring the soldiers' email and holiday well-wishes successfully reach their loved ones at home.
  • Pencils/Cover Art: David "Dave" Ross.
  • Inks: Pat Davidson.
  • Colors: Pete Pantazis.
  • Editors: Nicole Boose and Joe Quesada.

Because these were free giveaways with limited distribution, they are highly collectible.
